Village Voice December 2019/January 2020

It is great to report that the summer leagues

also came to a close with our ladies 1st team

winning the top division and so are heading for

the premier division next summer which is

extremely exciting for our small village club.

Our Winter Vets leagues are now under way

but are being hampered by the persistent rain.

The ladies are doing well across the board,

including a newly formed 4th team as we have

so many ladies keen to play which is a great

testament to our club. The men’s teams have

managed to play a few matches away on clay

and tarmac courts which are not as popular as

our fantastic ‘tiger turf’ courts at home! The

mixed teams are doing well despite the rain.

Coming up, we will run a few popular events

over the Christmas period including a special

‘Club Night’ where members can come and

play in fancy dress and enjoy some mulled wine

and mince pies, and the annual ‘Over vs Under

30’s tournament’ which I am sure will be as

hotly contested as ever!

We always love to see new members. We

pride ourselves on being a really friendly club,

with a real mixture of abilities. We have lots of

sessions that members can drop into for Ladies,

Men’s and Mixed tennis. Juniors have drop in

coaching on a Saturday. Members and nonmembers

can access the excellent coaching with

Neil James. So if you are new to tennis or feel

like picking up your racquet again, please visit

The season so far for the senior team has been

mixed. After a slow start the first team went on

a strong run winning 9 out of their next 10

games, putting themselves in the chasing pack

at the top of the league and included the first

game in a long time against our local

neighbours Holmer Green, which we ran out as

winners. However October and November have

been disappointing, and we look to build and

make the season more like September !
