across the school studied the traditions, customs,cuisine, language and art of countries such asMexico, Poland, India, Netherlands and Italy. Itwas a fabulously creative week that involvedmany of our parents delivering workshops –there was also a LOT of baking, cooking andfood tasting! By the end of the week ourwaistbands were a little bit tighter but we all hada much better understanding of life in otherplaces on our planet. It was a fun way ofcontributing to the development of our childrenas global citizens. Wendy Todd, Interim HeadteacherThe Village Pre-schoolI am very sad to report that Lesley Routledgewho has been my right hand ‘man’ for the past 9years is leaving the Pre-school. She is movingto Sir William Ramsay school to take up theposition of SEN Manager. Whilst we wish herthe very best of luck in her new job, she will bemissed by us all.We have a new Parent’s Committee and theyhave organised a packed range of fundraisingactivities for the academic year ahead. We hopeto hold another Quiz Night at the Sports &Social Club in February and are looking fordonations of Raffle Prizes (if anyone is able todonate anything please contact Nicky on thenumber below). We will also be holding anEaster Fayre with refreshments, a BBQ and funactivities for the children, look out for furtherdetails in the next edition of VV. Fundraisingevents provide money to enable extra-curricularactivities and experiences for the children suchas Zoolab, who will visit us again in December.Our Christmas party this year will includeentertainment from Becky and her Pre-schoolDisco, a visit from Father Christmas and his Elfand a Christingle craft activity for the children.We have also secured a group booking of 30tickets to Dick Whittington at the WycombeSwan at Christmas, which will be fun!We do still have spaces available for this year.We offer places to children ages 2 - 4 years &30 hours free childcare can be provided forthose who are eligible. Each familydonated non-perishable food with which wefilled a car and delivered to the One Can Trust.It was a good opportunity for the older childrento consider the needs of others and to play asmall part in helping them.Christmas Nativity Season: Our Little OaksOne Nativity has been moved from December12th to the 10th, as Holy Trinity Parish Hall isused as a Polling Station. Little OaksBeaconsfield children will present their versionof the Christmas story on Wednesday 11th,whilst the children of Little Oaks Two will beplaying their part in St Margaret’s Church on13th. Times to be treasured.Christmas Giving: Our Dash ShoeboxAppeal: Back in September 2013, we began toconsider how we could engage with a localcharity. Although we loved the shoebox appealsrun by many national and international charities,these gifts generally need to be collected by theend of October in order to ship them to theirdestinations abroad. So we decided to designour very Little Oaks Shoebox Appeal, targetinga local charity, DASH.Over the past six years we have deliveredmore than 150 shoeboxes, wrapped and full ofgifts for the adults and children beingaccommodated in refuges in our local area,having fled from domestic abuse. Often, thesevictims have had to leave in haste and withnothing, so our gifts are a mixture of essentialsand luxuries, in the hope that we can addresssome of their immediate needs at Christmastime. We encourage parents to involve theirchildren, in an age-appropriate way, in both inthe purchase of items and in conversationsabout who will be receiving them Ruthie Pocock25
