contribution in November 2016, we have raised
a total of £747, which has made a very real
difference to the lives of people who struggle
every day.
At our November meeting we will celebrate
our WI being 8 years old, with the ever-popular
Ploughman’s Lunch after the meeting. We
endeavour to make our meetings enjoyable and
inclusive, a happy place for women to come and
learn something new, and feel supported as
some are experiencing bereavement or chronic
pain. One recent speaker, the renowned
journalist Bill Hamilton, captured the spirit of
our WI in his remark, ”It was so uplifting to see
such a vibrant WI in good heart”.
When Tom Way comes again in December
with his lovely photography we shall no doubt
have seasonal refreshments with our coffee.
Our speaker in January will be introducing us to
yoga and meditation which I am sure will get
the year off to a good start and maybe inspire
some to a new art.
If you would like to find out more about us,
please visit us at Penn & Tylers Green Sports &
Social Club on the third Wednesday of the
month at 10 a.m.
May I take this opportunity to wish every
reader very best wishes from the members of

Village Care
At Christmas, Village Care Volunteers will be
driving our Clients until the end of Friday 13th
December, and we will start driving again on
Thursday 2nd January 2020.
We do wish all our Clients, Volunteers and
Open Gardeners a Happy Christmas and a good
New Year. In case of emergency during the
holiday, please ring Peter Sachs on 257823.
Thirty Volunteers joined us for our AGM on
4th October, where we reported that we had a
record 500 people going round our beautiful
Open Gardens this year, with record ticket and
teas takings of £2750 for this very social event
in our Village. We welcome any Gardeners who

Village Voice December 2019/January 2020
would like to open their gardens in the vicinity
of the Common, in 2020; please contact Ruth at
PowellRuth@btinternet.com. The Open
Gardens date next year is on Sunday 14th June
2020, which is a must for your diary.
We now have over £6000 available for local
charitable donations, and we would be grateful
for any suggestions on spending it. At the AGM
we took the opportunity of giving £1000 to
Scannappeal Bucks MRI appeal, and the photo
shows Peter Sachs giving the cheque to Susie
Weisz, an appeal Trustee.
Village Care did 527 client trips in the past
year, for 80 clients. Most of the destinations
were for hospitals or GPs. We welcome new
clients for our transport service, which is much
appreciated by the village and local area.
We shall hold our popular tea party on Friday
15th May, for all our clients, volunteers and
gardeners. Please put this important date in
your diary as well.
We have a fairly constant loss of volunteers
who move away from the Village, and we
always need to replace them. We are in need of
new drivers, if you have a little spare time and a
car. There is no obligation, and we would only
need you, when you are available, for one day a
month. If you would like to discuss this very
worth-while work, please ring Rob (817893).
We also need more telephonists, again without
obligation and for only one morning a month;
please ring Gillian (815693) to join this cheerful
team.
Happy Christmas from a thriving Village
Care! Peter Sachs (257823)
