the case, start their season far too late and willmost likely be up against it with too manygames in April, but they have started stronglyand lead the table at the time of writing withonly a careless defeat in the cup versus Iver ablemish on a possible 100% record.Our Ladies team have started brilliantly andare well in the hunt at the top end of the table.As a fairly newly formed team, consisting of ayoung group of girls, they have started well withjust one defeat in the first 7 games. As we sawrecently at Wembley, the interest in women’sfootball is at its highest level, and while we areexpecting such good things from this group ofplayers, they are well worth a watch on aSunday morning for your football fix.The junior sections across boys and girlscontinues to thrive. It’s too early to mentionpotentials, but as always we hope the boys andgirls play football with a smile and a touch ofskill. We once again regained our FACommunity Charter standard club award, whichis the highest possible award from the FA, andshows the level of coaching, welfare and effortour little club and community put in. This isreflected in the numbers we have and the qualityof teams training and playing each week. Forthose who want a real insight into how popularthe club is, I recommend a Saturday morning atthe club after winter, watching players from 4 to16 all at the same venue, all enjoying footballand all the laughter!I know many of you have been enjoyingWycombe Wanderers rise up the league thisseason. It is really something to see our localprofessional club riding high, especially forthose who still remember the Loakes Park days!Some of you were fortunate to see Sunderlandcome to town recently, but none more so thanOur U8s who were guests for the day at Adamspark and had a great time training on the pitchand were a real credit to the club, the village andto the local area. Great stuff boys!Finally, for those wondering we have yet toannounce our Festival of Football for 2020.Quite simply the Bank Holiday Monday haswww.pennandtylersgreen.org.ukVillage Voice December 2019/January 2020disappeared! We will be announcing dates soonfor our Festival of Football, when we haveagreed internally and with the relevantauthorities, when they will be. This year’stournament Director Will Morris has one morething to deal with!Penn Pond Waders Golf SocietySince our last update, our members and guestshave enjoyed outings to 2 cracking golf courses.In October, we visited Camberley Heath GC.The heavens opened up when we started playcausing some flooding on the opening greens.Thankfully, weather conditions quicklyimproved and some good scores were achieved.The day was won by Graham Garrett-Smithwith 38 points, playing off a handicap of 14.Neil Rogers was runner-up with 34 points.On 5th November, an impressive turn-out of44 of our members and guests travelled toSurrey to play the superb New Zealand GC.Dave Clarke won the day on 36 points, closelyfollowed by Gerry Britton with 34 points.Our Champion Golfer of 2019 was 'misterconsistency' Roger Stewart. He does of courseset all our playing handicaps for each of ourevents. His own starting handicap will I’m surebe more closely scrutinised than usual next year.By the time you read this, we will have hadour final event of the year at Ashridge GolfClub. At this event, we will have run a wholehost of fundraising activities aiming to raise ahandsome donation in aid of Chiltern ProstateCancer, the charity chosen by our 2019 captain,Peter Thorne.
