Milnrow Library Walking Group
A wet weather walk was called for recently
after the stormy weather left many of our
regular footpaths and routes very muddy
and slippery. We walked to Dunwood Park
and back.
Leaving Milnrow Library turn left to walk under
the motorway bridge and then left again into
Milnrow Memorial Park, following the footpath
uphill and past the front of the War Memorial,
continuing onto the gravelled path, part of the
Woodland Walk and out of the park turning right,
onto Church Lane. (over Bradley)
Turn left and continue along the footpath, towards
Shaw, until you reach the entry to the Level
Crossing which allows you to cross over the tram
track - taking care to check both ways to make
sure it is safe to cross. Then turn right.
Follow the lane past St. Thomas’s Church and
down the hill, then go down the steps that run
down the side of the School. At the bottom of the
steps cross Huddersfield Rd and continue along
Railway St, near the end of Railway St the road
narrows to a footpath, as it crosses Piethorne
Brook, continue over the bridge then turn right
onto Two Bridges Road.
Walk along the footpath and over the Tramline
bridge before crossing the road and walking
through the Two Bridges industrial development
and coming out onto Milnrow Rd.
This brings you into the Jubilee Mine Nature
Reserve where you can see some of the
remains of the mine and brickworks. As you walk
through here you are likely to meet some of the
volunteers working to keep the area in good
repair for the future generations to visit.
The end of this part of the route brings you out
by the former Jubilee Pub. Cross the road here
and go to your right over the bridge to turn left
down the cobbled passageway at the side of
Jubilee Terrace and enter Dunwood Park.
