Y4 AND Y5 ART VIRTUAL PORTRAITS
In Week 17 of online learning, Y4 and Y5 students learned about Gregg Segal, an artist that uses photograph explore
culture. They created self-portraits inspired by Segal that tell a story and make you think. They chose items that were
most important to them during the school suspension and journey into online learning, and arranged them while
keeping balance and contrast in mind.
“I felt great doing this project because it was very fun thinking
of what to add in the photo. Some of the items were board
games that I played with my parents when they had time.
There were also books/magazines that kept me amused.
When it was Sunday, I went to learn tennis, so my racket and
tennis ball were also included in the photo. And of course,
there were also the items that I used in class during
suspension (like my mousepad and mouse). Also, I love to
exercise so there was a stepper and a skipping rope in the
photo.”

“My most important thing during the school suspension was the printer,
scanner and the different electronic devices. It was very important
because I used it to upload my homework, print suspension work and
join online lessons. I placed different kinds of things near myself
because I want to show that many materials and things helped me a lot
in the suspension. I think the most important is the mask. It helps
protect all people and your body from getting infected by this horrible
and mighty Covid-19 virus. I liked decorating and putting the objects
around me. I really enjoyed this project.”

“This photo is about the things I needed and used during
the suspension. I liked this activity very much. I think this
really made my interest in photography grow greater. I did
not know that photography was about art! I really had fun!”
