The Struggle

is Real

Some felt that the school

suspension was a relaxing

holiday, while others, like

me, felt it was a major

roadblock in our education

and learning.

During this time, we were

asked to stay home by the

school and government

and proceeded with

classes on platforms like

Google Meet or Zoom.

Assessments and tests

were taken online, which

came with the dreaded

technical difficulties. Lags

in the system caused us

students to miss out on

important pieces of the

theory and occasionally it

was quite difficult for

teachers to answer our

questions. Constantly

staring at the computer

screen could also be

literally painful, causing

troubles like headaches.

For me personally, the

w o r s t p a r t w a s t h e

transition from handwriting

to typing. Some of us are

not proficient in typing,

which results in greatl

disadvantage for us in

online assessments and

exams.

Moreover, the fact that

distractions caused by our

surroundings were an

issue--construction noises

from surrounding flats, car

horns from the streets

below with traffic noises,

our younger siblings just

being loud. I won’t even

get into the temptations of

an open browser options

and video games. These

issues came together as a

giant firewall, obstructing

our learning.

That said, over the course

of the suspension period, I

adapted and eventually

became a better typer and

online student. I have

trained myself to ignore

my surroundings various

distractions noises and

interruptions. Moreover, I

learned to deal with the

current technology and

communication issues

and, in most instances,

successfully overcame

them. Hopefully, if there

are more closures in the

future, we’ll be able to

take this experience and

use it constructively and

positively. But, if I had my

choice in the matter, I’d

say: Let’s stay in school!
