After a long and sluggish semester, I told myself that I had to ‘stay in my lane’ and stop comparing myself

to other people. University is a very diverse place, you have to accept the fact that everyone lives and

learns at a different pace. Some might succeed earlier than you do, and some might find success a little

later. I decided to stay humble, and open-minded. Once I adopted this mentality, I realized that I was

doing so much better in university, because I was no longer chasing what I left out during the first year.

Instead, I was just focusing on delivering the best quality of work that I could achieve.

And I have to say, this mentality worked out pretty well for me… my grades have vastly improved, won

some case competitions along the way, and gained some valuable and interesting internship

experiences. This summer, I am even more honored to be able to work at JP Morgan as a corporate

analyst.

No matter if you are heading into university soon, or just starting IB, I believe that adopting this mentality

will be beneficial to you. I hope that my piece advice can help you all in becoming the best version of

yourself! As my friend Joshua Cheung (Class of 2017) once told me “Don’t lose focus on your goals. We

all have life commitments to fulfill. It’s not to be the best in one day, but to get a little bit better, little by

little, day by day.” Stay humble and open-minded!
