FROM AN ELECTRIC THEATRE TO A CINEMA
Once upon a time there were movie theatres in the downtown
of Pärnu where one could forget all the worries and duties, where
one could live a life of those who were in action and in love on
the screen. Fortunately, in the most cases, a story had a happy or
even a very happy end. Unfortunately it doesn’t work so well in
real life. The history of movie theatres proved it in Pärnu.
Electric Theatre Ideal, one of the first cinemas in Pärnu
was opened in 1913. The theatre is on the right side of the
postcard.
The new larger cinema Pallas was erected instead of Ideal
after World War I. The rats continued to run over the shoes
of the audience.
Cinema Capitol was the first fundamental cinema in town. It
was destroyed during WW II.
The movie theatre Kiir was a former carrage house of Grand
Hotel. The functional façade of stable and carrage house was
reconstructed according to drawings by city architect Olev
Siinmaa in 1930-s. When Estonia regained independence
in 1990-s, the cinema was closed. Today the building is
functioning as the night club Sugar.
There is no movie theatre in the downtown of Pärnu
anymore.
“ELEKTRITEATRIST” TÕELISE KINONI
Olid ajad, mil Pärnu südalinnas sai käia kinos, sai unustada
oma mured ja kohustused ning elada ekraanil tegutsevate ning
armastavate inimeste elu. Õnneks lõppes kinolinal pea alati kõik
hästi või isegi väga hästi. Samuti aga ei pruugi minna reaalelus.
Pärnu kinode ajalugu tõestab seda väidet.
“Elektriteater Ideal”, üks esimesi kinosid, mis tegutses juba
1913. aastal. Kino asus Ringi tänava ääres, “Ideali” leiab
postkaardi paremast servast. Vasakus servas paistab trükikoja
sein ning taamal seisab Nikolai kirik.
Pärast I ilmasõda ehitati Ideali kohale kinoteater Pallas. Ka siin
olevat rotid seansi ajal üle vaatajate kingade jooksnud.
Kino Capitol ehitati 1920-ndate aastate alguses Ringi ning
funktsionalistlik fassaad. Eesti taasiseseisvumisel see südalinna
ainus kino lõpetas tegevuse ning seisis kaua tühjalt. Nüüd
tegutseb siin ööklubi Sugar.
Tänane seis - kaasaegset kinoteatrit Pärnus pole.
