Led by a spiritual guide and a whip-bearing ringleader, a group of dancers ride woven horses in rhythmic unison until spirits enter them. Once possessed they engage in a range of self-mortification behaviors until safely emerging from their altered state, left with no memory of the event. These are Eva, Kelly and a few other men from Venezuela who live and work in Hamburg St. Pauli in a microcosm of „the somewhat different women“. Behind the inconspicuous historical facades, away from the glitter and the neon lights of the Reeperbahn, one finds a unique little universe: hither, an exceptional commune, thither, a garish bar with extraordinary guests. THE LAST DANCERS 17min. 2012, Germany “Tanzpalast Kiss” is one of the last dance halls in Hamburg where people of different cultural backgrounds and over their 50-ies are coming together to dance. The film immerges in a microcosmos of twinkling plastic palms and glitter chandeliers, tracing loneliness and desire of individuals living in a major city. People that are either in search of love or just for someone to dance with for one evening, escaping from the daily loneliness by fleshly closeness. Nad tulevad siia otsima armastust, aga peavad ka leppima teise inimese kehast kiirgava üheõhtu-soojusega.
THE LAST DAY OF THE SUMMER 32 min. 2010, Poland (filmed in Russia) An insight into the contemporary Russia through everyday life at cadet school in Penza, 700 km away from Moscow. The film maker picks up a few characters, showing how much the stay at school influences their lives, how their personalities change under influence of the state military policy. Jälgides tähelepanelikult paari kadetikooli kursanti, püüab filmi autor välja selgitada, kuidas riigi militaarpoliitika muudab nende iseloomu. MOTHER INDIA 61 min. 2011, Italy (filmed in India) Jhuma and Niladri are a couple from Burdwan in the state of West Bengal. They have been married for 8 years and have no children. This is a major problem, especially in India where a childless married woman is considered impure. The couple set off for Hyderabad, the heart of Indian medical reproduction research, on a journey of hope, a journey that will take them to Dr Rama’s fertility clinic. At the Hyderabad clinic, Jhuma comes into contact with doctors, embryologists, other infertile women and surrogate mothers. The meetings and the results of the medical tests make her and her husband face crucial decisions. The journey to Hyderabad changes them forever. MY GRANNY LIEN 15 min. 2011, The Netherlands Grandmother Lien (84) is suffering Alzheimer’s disease and losing more and more contact with reality. Christel (14) is still visiting her twice a week despite her busy schedule of all activities, schoolwork and sports. She loves her granny very much, and it is getting tougher for her to see her in this state. And to see her getting worse. Often grandma is sad, crying, scared, and Christel is not able to make her smile. Is the moment near that Christel will stop visiting her grandmother?
