Herman Parl<strong>and</strong> has passed his 90th year. He is never ill, takes no medicines <strong>and</strong> has no worries.<br />
Herman spends long summer days at Vättilä farm in eastern Finl<strong>and</strong> pottering around the<br />
house, fishing, bicycling <strong>and</strong> taking long walks in the forest where every rock <strong>and</strong> root awakes<br />
his interest. He spent his childhood near Viborg close to St.Petersburg with his three elder<br />
brothers, who were later to become well-known writers. He has many memories of the life in<br />
the shadow of the Russian Revolution. As the day draws to a close Herman heats the small<br />
sauna by the lake.<br />
