Fear Factor
Dairy operators stressed
over threat of virus
invading their work force
find ways to stay safe
BY Nancy Mayfield
eastern iowa farmer
At Blanchard Family Dairy in Charlotte,
milking happens three times a day, seven
days a week, 365 days a year.
The operation employs 30 full-time
people to help take care of its 1,500
Holstein-Jersey cows. On top of navigating a volatile
milk market during the COVID-19 pandemic, the
Blanchards and other dairy operators also have the
added job of keeping workers safe.
