1.1.2 Reference Points:
Limit
and target reference
points
are appropriate for the
stock.
(1-60) Generic limit and target
reference points are based on
justifiable and reasonable
practice appropriate for the
species category.
(1-80) Reference points are
appropriate for the stock and can
be estimated.
(2-80) The limit reference point
is set above the level at which
there is an appreciable risk of
impairing reproductive capacity.
(3-80) The target reference point
is such that the stock is
maintained at a level consistent
with BMSY or some measure or
surrogate with similar intent or
outcome.
(4-80) For low trophic level
species, the target reference
point takes into account the
ecological role of the stock.
(1-100) Reference points are
appropriate for the stock and can
be estimated.
(2-100) The limit reference point
is set above the level at which
there is an appreciable risk of
impairing reproductive capacity
following consideration of
relevant precautionary issues.
(3-100) The target reference
point is such that the stock is
maintained at a level consistent
with BMSY or some measure or
surrogate with similar intent or
outcome, or a higher level, and
takes into account relevant
precautionary issues such as the
ecological role of the stock with
a high degree of certainty.
Scoring comments
The assessment team notes that there are no reference points in terms of SSB or F agreed for this or any other European sea bass stock, and
explicit (formal) reference points have not yet been defined for the bass stock in ICES Sub-area IV. Spawning success and juvenile survival for
sea bass are heavily dependent on climatic conditions, especially temperature, and there appears to be no relationship between stock and
