Great Lengths

“Our events cover every angle of hairdressing that I think will help freelancers grow. For example we had
Tony Heffernan, the Tattooed Accountant, in to do a training day on finances and accounting specifically
geared towards freelancers. Ky Wilson did a session and a talk on going out on your own, too. We’ve had
social media experts, yoga, spiritual classes and then at least once if not twice a year, we try to host a
Freelancer’s Night where anyone in the hair and beauty industry who works out on their own can come in
and mingle, have fun and connect with each other.
“A good event is one that solves a problem for people, helps them get over a stumbling block or teaches
them something that helps them move forward. It helps that freelancers who attend our events are doing
it on their own time – they are investing in themselves so they are eager to learn and participate. There is
always great engagement and banter at a Maven event. We had some amazing classes lined up for 2020
before Covid-19 hit – Lorraine Dublin, Christina Cook and Lena Bogucharskaya – so as soon as it’s safe to
get dates set for these legends we will do so.
“I also encourage the members at Maven to take the space and run their own courses, I love seeing
them push themselves. They turned the light on me and got me to do my own course, so I’ll be hosting
one for anyone who is going, or who is thinking about going, out on their own. The course will cover
everything that you need to do before you start and then how to become successful when you do so.
We’ll be talking, start-up, finances, branding and social media.”
