From the elegant, stylish décor to the
prime location and flowing indoor
and outdoor living areas, there is
simply nothing not to love about
this home. It is contemporary coastal
design at its best.
Having recently been bought for
holiday rental purposes, the fivebedroom
beachfront property was
touched up and made ‘holiday ready’
by KZN interior design guru, Lee
Moon of Lee Moon Interior Design.
“The previous owner has such
impeccable taste that we really
haven’t had to change a lot,” says
Lee. “She left a lot of the furniture
and décor behind and we simply
‘filled the gaps’ where she had taken
meaningful pieces with her.”
Having been in the interior design
industry for over 30 years, Lee says
it is very important to her to get to
know her clients and understand
their needs before embarking on any
project. She leans towards timeless,
classic furniture pieces, which can
be accentuated with trendy, soft
furnishings.
The kitchen has a lovely, social seating
area with large glass doors that open
up onto the sea-facing patio
There are five bedrooms. Three are
downstairs and an elevator takes you up
to the second floor where the other two
bedrooms and living areas are situated.
Because the home is being used
predominantly for holiday rental
purposes, the new owners wanted to
depersonalise the interior and give it
more of a classic, holiday look and feel.
Mostly, this just meant changing the
odd wallpaper, adding a few soft
furnishings and accessories and lots
of greenery. The kitchen, however, did
get a full revamp.
“We opened the kitchen up and
created a wonderful, social seating
area around the island. The large,
open-shelved pantry is the perfect
place to store all the crockery, cutlery
and table décor, making it easy for
holidaymakers to find what they need.”
The kitchen, lounge and master
bedroom all open up onto the most
exquisite verandah with 180-degree
sea views. Stylishly decorated in the
classic ‘Ralph Lauren blue and white’,
the furniture and décor in this space
fits its location perfectly.
Lee moved the shelving unit that
was in the kitchen and turned it into
a beautiful feature in the living area
between the lounge and dining room.
This is something, she says, she has
become synonymous with. “A a strong
part of my décor ethos and one of my
