We’ll openly try to reduce our single-use plastic, recycle more and waste less. But how does this transfer into the business world? What can automotive professionals do to improve their business impact? Reclaimed OE car parts, which are more commonly known as green parts, are becoming increasingly accepted when it comes to repairing or refurbishing vehicles. With only around six per cent of customers not fully understanding the key benefits of using green parts, the industry as a whole is beginning to utilise what essentially is already there for the taking. But just how can using these green parts benefit your business? There are a plethora of reasons why automotive professionals should begin buying and selling green automotive parts, here are a few of the key benefits… Low cost for high quality The biggest business benefit of using green parts for both garage and customer is the overall cost. Cars continue to advance in both design and digitisation and therefore the cost of brand new parts is rising at an uneasy rate compared to their green counterparts. So purely with cost in mind, purchasing a green part seems like the obvious choice – this where quality is key. Contrary to popular perceptions, buying a green part doesn’t have to mean that that the quality is compromised. Independently certified automotive recyclers who can give assurance of the quality of their parts and provide warranties are those who can be trusted to deliver the standard of part that’s advertised. Reduced key-to-key times Another huge advantage of purchasing green parts is that they are ready to send to the buyer. Automotive recyclers who are advertising green parts already have the parts in stock rather than waiting for them to be shipped in from the manufacturer. Which means that as soon as they are bought, they can be sent to the buyer. What this means is that key-to-key times can not only be better managed, but can actually be reduced when seamless delivery options are available. Not only does this make the automotive professional’s work just that extra bit easier, but it means that better relationships can be formed getting customers back on the road quickly. Save carbon emissions In a recent survey, 77% of people who purchase green parts said they do so because of the environmental benefits. Those benefits being that recycled car parts make a positive impact on the environment, research estimates that if all insurance demand had been filled by recycling parts in 2019 nearly 47,000 tonnes of carbon emissions could have been saved. Part of the way that energy is reduced with recycled car parts is that there isn’t a need to manufacture or transport new parts. Equally, by finding another use for a part, it stops it from needlessly ending up on a landfill site. How is eBay ensuring consumer confidence when purchasing green parts? eBay’s new Green Parts for Business platform, which was made specifically with automotive professionals in mind, is the UK’s largest online aggregator of green parts from only independently certified sellers - and is bridging the gap between consumer confidence and purchasing green parts. When developing the platform, eBay collaborated with the Vehicle Recycling Association (VRA) to establish a certification scheme, which ensures all automotive recyclers meet a professional standard. Users of the platform are able to buy and sell green OE automotive parts with peace of mind during every step of the process.
