THE TOW SHOW 2021
29 & 30 September
Telford International Centre
The Financial sector was badly hit during the Covid pandemic,
how has Athena coped during this period?
The pandemic has definitely been a challenge for Athena and
for the industry as a whole. We have coped by reaching out to
our contacts across the country, reaffirming those relationships
and building new ones. We pivoted our marketing strategy which
included our shiny new website and increased our presence on
social media. We’re very proud to have weathered the storm and
looking forward to the future!
With this being the first Tow show for two years, the industry
is very excited to be getting back together, how important are
events like this to Athena?
So important! We are really looking forward to the show and
finally being able to meet contacts face to face. It will be an
interesting few days, an opportunity to further broaden our
industry knowledge and we’re excited to have the opportunity to
showcase all we do here at Athena!
You have been through many world events that have hit the
finance markets hard, yet Athena keeps going from strength to
strength, how have you achieved this?
Thank you, we just don’t give up. Ever. It is a tough industry and
things can be difficult at times but with the right network around
us we adapt accordingly and keep on moving forward.
What does the next two years hold for your company?
We’re so excited to have recently broadened our team and with
our new website and marketing strategy, the sky is the limit!
NISSENS EGR VALVE SOLUTIONS FOR
PROMINENT VAG TDI APPLICATIONS
The EGR valve used in more than seven million European
VAG diesel applications utilising the 1.4, 1.6 and
2.0-litre TDI units can be particularly problematic, as
it is especially susceptible to heat and vibration, as well as
excessive engine load. Naturally, the faulty valve has to be
replaced, but as the issues are largely due to the design of the
original equipment (OE) part, opting to fit a superior solution
provides a great opportunity for workshops.
Fortunately, the Nissens Efficiency & Emissions division
has stepped in to provide just such a solution by addressing
the issues that contribute to the valve’s premature failure
and ensuring its proper function and long lifespan, despite
exposure to the harsh working conditions it has to deal with.
By applying several design improvements over the original
and proving them over a series of comprehensive tests, the
Nissens team has developed a durable replacement part
(Nissens part number 98178), which supersedes 10 OE part
numbers and performs to the standards defined by the
vehicle manufacturer and therefore provides the aftermarket
with a competitive, genuine Nissens quality, solution.
The Nissens solution
Optimised gearbox design – Recognising the problems
associated with heat and lubrication, Nissens significantly
reduced tolerance and therefore friction, by applying specific
PTFE, high-temperature resistant grease and upgraded the
plastic material of the gear wheels in the two-stage gearbox.
Improved design of the valve stem – To avoid the known
malfunction of the valve caused by the engine load and
vibrations, Nissens improved the valve’s stem and lever arm
fi xings.
DC-motor design upgrade – The motor’s bearing system has
also been improved to ensure its reliable operation and long
service life.
