⊲ UTB: You enjoyed a memorable
spell of goalscoring in the early
months of our first campaign back
in the Premier League, including
notable goals in victories over
Everton and Arsenal and a strike from
distance against Manchester United.
Are you confident you can rediscover
that kind of form again this term?
⊲ LM: “Those were really special
moments for me personally and I also
remember scoring in draws at West
Ham and Wolves and a goal later in
the season in a win against Tottenham
at Bramall Lane, but after the season
was stopped in March, like the team
I struggled to find any momentum and
obviously last season, starting with
the foot injury I picked up in a friendly
against Preston, I just never really
got fully fit and whenever I got in and
around the squad I seemed to pick up
another knock. But hopefully now I can
stay clear of any more problems, find
some form and momentum, scoring a
good number of goals and contribute
to helping this team get towards the
top of the Championship because
I believe the squad is certainly good
enough to challenge.”
⊲ UTB: The emergence of Iliman
Ndiaye has caught the eye of
everyone inside the club this season.
How impressed have you been with
his performances so far, especially
given his lack of first-team experience
prior to his full debut against
Peterborough United in September?
⊲ LM: “He impressed me towards the
end of last season when he started
training with the main group under
Paul Heckingbottom and I remember
his debut as a substitute at Leicester
City. I’m not sure why he didn’t feature
much in pre-season or in the opening
few games, but he recently signed a
new long-term contract to commit his
future to the club and his talent is clear
to see. Iliman gets the fans excited, he
gets them out of their seat, and he’s
already shown he’ll score goals and
make them for others in the team too.
He has a very bright future ahead and
hopefully he is another player that can
keep improving and help us get much
higher in the table.”
⊲ UTB: What is your early
assessment of the Sky Bet
Championship – given this is
your first taste of the division?
⊲ LM: “The games seem to come
round really fast. In the Premier
League, you play the majority
of the games on weekends
and there aren’t too many
midweek matches, but at this
level you seem to be playing
twice a week all the time and
hopefully that is where we can
