Almost two-thirds (64%) of Aussies consider
themselves excellent drivers, but nearly a
quarter (23%) ask their parents how to keep
their car maintained.
With a love for road trips, motorsports and driving
video games, Aussies are confident when it comes
to hitting the road. But new research from mycar
Tyre & Auto reveals that although Aussies are
enthusiastic about driving, some are still unsure of
what our cars actually need.
As a nation that feels at home behind the wheel,
Aussies say the more years of experience a licence
holder has, the more confident they feel in both
their driving ability and their knowledge of road
rules, with 45–54-year-olds most likely to call
themselves excellent drivers (70%). However, over a
third of Aussies (35%) don’t know what tyre is best
for their vehicle and their driving style.
Despite half of the nation playing or streaming
video games (46%), most choose to add more
power (33%) and change their car’s aesthetics (31%)
before upgrading their wheels and tyres (25%) when
playing driving games.

of driving challenges IRL. From heavy braking to
tight cornering in the wet, Hex learnt first-hand the
impact good tyres can make.
"When I'm driving in video games there's no
consequence for losing traction. But when it comes
to safety in real life, I think I underestimated the
difference good tyres with plenty of tread can
make. You don't have to be an expert to feel the
difference when it comes to that grip and security.
