New Activity Group – Writing Your Life Story
7
Here is a reminder that this new Activity Group will be getting underway on Thursday, September 8, in
the Board Room at the Evergreen Seniors Centre at 1:30 pm, and will meet each Thursday.
Thanks to all who have contacted me to express an interest in joining this Group. I hope you will now sign
up for the course. There is no charge for this but, besides being a GWSA member, you are required to be
registered in the class. You can do this online via the City’s RecEnroll computer program, or at the front
desk at the Evergreen Seniors Centre. The only fee will be a $2.00 charge for each class you attend.
To prepare for writing your life story, I suggest that you take some time to go through old photo albums,
diaries and journals, as well as chatting to members of your family about episodes in your life that are
presently only faint memories. The purpose of the Activity Group is to awaken those memories and put
them on paper as stories, which we will share with others in the class. I hope this will prove interesting for
us all, as well as being fun!
I look forward to meeting you in September. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate
to contact me.
PEER LEARNING
Peer Learning will resume in the fall in person at the Evergreen Centre.
Each course has a theme that gives rise to a number of possible topics. At the preliminary meeting, the
moderator proposes a list of topics and the group may suggest others. Each person then selects a topic and
undertakes to prepare a 20-minute talk to be given at some point in the next eight weeks.
At each weekly meeting, there are two 20-minute presentations, each followed by a 30-minute discussion.
This allows time for a coffee break between sessions.
The word “peer” is used to emphasize that there is no instructor. We learn from one another. The
moderator ensures that the sessions run smoothly, and encourages us all to participate.
Our planned sessions for this fall are as follows:
