“He's recently taken over the kitchen and we’re<br />
offering this style of meals on Friday night, Saturday<br />
and Sunday. That style is proving really popular with<br />
patrons and although it’s just the three days at the<br />
moment, we’re hoping that will be available sevendays-a-week<br />
in the coming months,” Paul said.<br />
The Railway Hotel Mount Morgan offers<br />
accommodation as its name suggests with three<br />
motel rooms which are fully supplied with ensuites,<br />
air conditioning and a queen-size and single-size bed<br />
in each room. There are also five hotel rooms which<br />
have shared lavatories with separate male and female<br />
bathrooms.<br />
“There are some really big construction projects<br />
commencing here, with the reopening of the mine as<br />
well as a $750 million wind farm, so accommodation<br />
is going to be a real problem. But for the locals, and<br />
particularly those in the hospitality industry, businesses<br />
are sitting on their own gold mine,” Paul said.<br />
“The Railway Hotel was a real struggling little pub, but<br />
we’re taking on our competition and we're doing that<br />
without a seven-day-a-week restaurant or pokies, so<br />
we are doing really well.<br />
“We're getting big crowds with our bigger events and<br />
we're trying to create a point of difference to the other<br />
two hotels in town by offering a more family-oriented<br />
venue for people in town,” Paul said.<br />
Since taking on the hotel, Paul has renovated the<br />
bottle shop and joined the Thirsty Camel branding<br />
which has seen a 600% growth in bottle shop<br />
takeaway.<br />
He has also tackled the issue of food service with the<br />
help of a ‘Low and Slow’ chef specialising in slowcooked<br />
meals such as pork spare ribs, beef short ribs,<br />
pulled pork, pork briskets, nachos and loaded fries<br />
topped with slow-cooked meats.
