We ordered from 5 West Pub. I picked up the food, brought it back to the house and discreetly left the bill on the table by the dishes and the plates. Not once did they offer to pay. Of course, they did bring a nice bottle of wine, but that didn’t make up for the food cost. I wanted to ask them if they’d chip in, but my wife threatened to send me to the couch for the night. What do you think? — Miffed Dear Miffed Let us review. YOU invited your new neighbors to dinner. YOU chose to get takeout. And YOU expected them to pay their fair share as it were. No. YOU are wrong, and may we add The Answer Lady Wise answers to perplexing questions — cheap or certainly inhospitable. Anytime you ask someone out for dinner or drinks, the onus is on the host — that’s you — to pay unless you have an understanding going into it. The Answer Lady doesn’t understand what you’re making such a fuss about. You accomplished your mission and now it is their turn to have you over. It would be quite a twist if they ask you to pay, but we’ll leave that for another column. Dear Answer Lady My girlfriend of six years and I decided to take a break in January which I suspect is going to be permanent — she is already dating someone. The thing is, we used to take intimate pictures of each other which she wants me to delete. I don’t want to. Obviously, they have special meaning, but she’s angry that I won’t delete them. I could say I deleted them and not do it. I would never use them maliciously. What do you think? — Sentimental Sam Dear Sam Of course, you must delete them. You do not strike us as someone who would be so duplicitous as to say one thing and do another. Honor this request knowing you then do not have to worry about a future love interest using them with malice aforethought. Not everyone is as honorable as you. Finally, deleting them will help you to move on. The Answer Lady suggests you treat yourself to Sunday Brunch at Fins after you do the deed.
