Rainy days were for exploring in that attic. Unlike attics in today’s ranch style homes, it had lots of head room and was full of odds and ends with interesting backstories. Some known, but mostly mysterious. What are these things, tucked away and forgotten? If they could talk, what stories could they tell? Today, my attic (and likely yours) can be found in Tillsonburg on Old Vienna Road at Tillsonburg Antiques Plus. Walking into the 10,000 square foot cornucopia of classic artifacts is like walking back in time. Established in 2010, owner Patti Webb started the emporium with her husband and two sons. “I used to attend a lot of auction sales,” she said, “and often I would wind up with more than I really wanted. That’s because many items were sold in lots, so if there was something I wanted, I would have to buy the whole lot.” She added, “For awhile, I would simply donate the excess items, but even that didn’t keep me ahead of our need for more space. I needed to do something with them.” Patti did set up a booth at several markets for awhile, but when the local factory her husband was employed at closed, they decided to set up their own store. Tillsonburg Antiques Plus currently has about 50 different vendors with a wide array of curios. Some vendors, realizing that they can’t continue collecting in their special interest field, have set up booths. Other vendors just enjoy collecting and see this as a hobby. Items that don’t sell well are often replaced with new offerings, she pointed out. Vendors come and go, so the stock always changes. It’s important to offer as much variety as possible. If you miss your attic the way I do mine, you can rediscover it in Tillsonburg at Antiques Plus. It is indeed a veritable time machine, perfect for a rainy day. A Little Bit of Sunshine A narrow ray of sunshine, ne shone through the kitchen door. or I never even en noticed, ‘til I felt the warming floor. or I don’t know how I missed sed it. That brilliant, iant warming beam. For the cat was s softly purring, ring laying in the sunny stream.
