CHIEF MARSHALL: We have one resolution to p.zesent this morning, in<br />

regard to the use <strong>of</strong> the blow torches and the advertisi÷ag, concerning the use<br />

<strong>of</strong> them as follows. - .......<br />

A RESOLUTIO,N<br />

WHEREAS: It has been broughtto the attentiisn <strong>of</strong> ~his~<strong>New</strong>Eiagland<br />

<strong>Association</strong> <strong>of</strong> Fire Chiefs at annual conference assembled this. 24th day <strong>of</strong> Jur~e,<br />

1954, at Portsmouth, <strong>New</strong> Hampshire, certain adv~ertising matter describing<br />

for use <strong>of</strong> the average citizen, the use <strong>of</strong> a blow torch to meit resin <strong>of</strong>f knots<br />

and resin-rich boards..<br />

WHEREAS: this use <strong>of</strong> blow torch would be contrary to safety standards<br />

and practices <strong>of</strong> prevention <strong>of</strong> the many fires occurring from~:.-this~ :pr~e~tice 6f<br />

using blow torches in preparing surfaces for paint ........................<br />

WHEREAS: we are concerned that the broad use <strong>of</strong> blow torches by tile<br />

average citizen would be sure to result in m.an~r,-ar~d sSrious fires, and would<br />

increase the loss <strong>of</strong> life and property by fire, now. ~therefore, be it<br />

RESOLVED: that this <strong>New</strong> <strong>England</strong> <strong>Association</strong> <strong>of</strong> Fire ’Chiefs, at ann’uaI<br />

<strong>Conference</strong> assembled, strongly condemns the use <strong>of</strong> blow torches.<br />

And .~urth~r. ~strongly condemns any advertising matter..tha.t.-implies the<br />

use <strong>of</strong> blow torches by the average citizen .in preparing the_surface-o.£-his hoi<br />
