MAJOR SMITH: They have 50 or 60 rooms.; they are practically all double.<br />

_And I might say that your key men would have the s~me rooms which they<br />

have year after year.<br />

CHIV.F KIMBALL: On this matter <strong>of</strong> the Round Table Discussions, if<br />

we start Tuesday, we Chiefs who pay our own way certainly want more time<br />

for the Round Table Discussions., and that is the reason that we wanted Monday<br />

morning for the Memorial Service.<br />

MR. SMITH: All right. I don’t want this to stand in the way <strong>of</strong> you<br />

Chiefs; the Chiefs come first; they still come first with us.. I£ you vote to come<br />

on Sunday and Monday, we will have to work out some other arrangement with<br />

the Jewelers.<br />

I)RESIDENT FORTIER: I am willing to entertain another motion, and we can<br />

discuss it.<br />

CHIEF ADAMS, Of Marblehead: I don’t know that I have the courage to<br />

withdraw the motion. I simply .mentioned that we did not know about the confusion<br />

and the difficulty. -<br />

PRV.SlDENT FORTIER: Then, will you repeat your motion for us?<br />

CrtlEF ADAMS: I made the motion that we open the <strong>Conference</strong> on a<br />

Monday, and terminate on a Thursday.<br />

This motion was duly seconded by several <strong>of</strong> the members present.<br />

(The question was then called for.) o .<br />

PRESIDENT FORTI~.R: We haven’t voted the place, yet.<br />

All those in favor <strong>of</strong> opening the <strong>Conference</strong> on a Monday, and terminating<br />

it on a Thursday, will please manifest by raising their right hands. Those<br />

opposed?<br />

A majority raised their hands for the Monday meeting, and the motion<br />

was carried.<br />

PRESIDENT FORTIER: I declare the vote is carried, that we open tl~e meeting<br />

on. Monday.<br />

CHIEF KIMBALL: I move that we accept the invitation to come tO the<br />

Wentworth.<br />

This motion was duly seconded by Chief Wells and others present and was<br />

carried. ~. ,<br />

PRESlD~.NT FOr[TIV.R: The next order <strong>of</strong> business is the Election and Installation<br />

<strong>of</strong> Officers.<br />

SECRETARY O’I-IEARN: First, let me say that we have "received a telegram<br />

from Chief Kirwan, that Fire Chief James W. Barker <strong>of</strong> Middletown, Rhode<br />

Island, passed away this morning.<br />

Mr. President, I move that we rise in silence fo,,r a moment, out o~ respect<br />

to thememory o~ the late Chief. ’<br />

(The audience then rose in silence for a moment, in reverent memory <strong>of</strong><br />

the late James W. Barker <strong>of</strong> Middletown, Rhode Island.) ._<br />

PR~.SIDV, Na ~ FORTiER: For the election <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers, I am going to ask, first,<br />

for nominations for the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> President.<br />
