This nomination was then duly seconded by several <strong>of</strong> the members: present.<br />

A MEMBER: I move that iiiominations be closed, and it couldn’t happen<br />

to a better guy! Will the. President cast a ballot for his election.<br />

This motion was. duly seconded :by acclamation <strong>of</strong> the members present,<br />

and was carried, unanimously. ’~<br />

PRESIDENT GRAHAM: I have cast the ballot, and I declare John W.<br />

O’Hearn duly elected as Secretary-Treasurer <strong>of</strong> this. <strong>Association</strong> for the ensuing<br />

year. (Applause.)<br />

SECRETARY O’HEARN: Mr. President and Members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Association</strong>. I<br />

have noted that the President cast the ballot, and my name is on it. I can’t<br />

have more to say than thank you; I have talked too much already. I will try<br />

to even do better next year, and I hope the Lord spares me so that I can go. on<br />

with you.<br />

I like the discussion we had here this morning; you are going away, more<br />

pleased, because you have shown a real interest in the work <strong>of</strong> the association.<br />

And now, it:s up to you to fix the salary; that is done annually, as. you<br />

know. Sometimes I have a dread <strong>of</strong> that salary business. In 1952, you increased<br />

it by $300.00. I took it during the last twelve months. I wish, now, that you<br />

would deduct it and get me back to $1,200.<br />

Thank you all very much! (App!ause.)<br />

CHIEF PACHAL: I move that the salary <strong>of</strong> the Secretary Treasurer be<br />

the same as before.<br />

This motion was duly seconded, and was carried.<br />

PRESmENT GRAHAM: Gentlemen, Chief Fortier, by virtue <strong>of</strong> having served<br />

as President o£ the <strong>Association</strong> the past year, becomes, a Director, as the immedi~<br />

ate Past President, . and the Chair is. now ready to receive nominat, lons for the<br />

Director from the State <strong>of</strong> Maine.<br />

CHIEF MURRAY: I-would like to nominate Oliver T. Sanborn, Portland,<br />

as Director from the State <strong>of</strong> Maine.<br />

This nomination was duly seconded by several <strong>of</strong> the members present,<br />

and was carried.<br />

PRESIDENT GRAHAM: I declare Chief Sanborn duly elected to the <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

<strong>of</strong> Director from the State <strong>of</strong> Maine.<br />

CHIEF SANBORN: Again, I want to thank you for your confidence, and<br />

I do want to say that we will try to satisfy everybody, but, as. you know, that<br />

is almost impossible; nevertheless, we will continue to do our best for the bene-,<br />

fit <strong>of</strong> this organization.<br />

PRESIDENT ,GRAHAM: And thank you, Chief Sanborn.<br />

Nominations are now open for the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Director from <strong>New</strong> Hampshire.<br />

CHIEF ’GuEVlN, Manchester: I rise at this time to place in nomination the<br />

name <strong>of</strong> Chief Clarence A. Green, Concord, to be a Director from <strong>New</strong> Hamp~<br />

shire. ,, ~<br />
