lthough Texas is about 2.8<br />

times bigger than the United<br />

Kingdom, the population of<br />

the UK is 42.6 million more<br />

than the Lone Star State,<br />

which became the 28th state<br />

of the union in 1845.<br />

Texas is the second-largest<br />

state in the US regarding both<br />

land area and population size<br />

behind Alaska and California<br />

respectively. It lies in the<br />

south-central part of the<br />

country sharing its borders<br />

with Oklahoma, New Mexico,<br />

Louisiana and Arkansas. Texas<br />

also shares its border with the<br />

Mexican states of Tamaulipas,<br />

Chihuahua, Coahuila, and<br />

Nuevo Leon. The state capital<br />

of Texas is Austin. Houston is<br />

the state’s most populous city<br />

and the fourth most populous<br />

in the whole of the US.<br />

The economy of the State<br />

of Texas is the second largest<br />

by GDP in the USA after<br />

that of California. It has a<br />

gross state product of $2.4<br />

trillion. In 2022, Texas led<br />

the nation with the most<br />

companies in the Fortune<br />

500 with 53 in total. As of<br />

2021, Texas grossed more than<br />

$300 billion a year in exports<br />

– more than the exports of<br />

California ($175 billion)<br />

and New York ($100 billion)<br />

combined.<br />

Texas is ranked as the<br />

ninth largest economy among<br />

nations of the world by GDP,<br />

ahead of Canada, South<br />

Korea, Russia, and Australia.<br />

The economy of Texas<br />

includes agriculture, oil<br />

and petroleum, tourism and<br />

entertainment. Texas has the<br />

largest number of cattle in<br />

the whole country, numbering<br />

more than 16 million, while<br />

the state is the country’s<br />

leader in producing goat<br />

and sheep products, and it<br />

is also the leader in cotton<br />

production, which is the<br />

leading crop product and the<br />

second most valuable farm<br />

output in Texas. Agriculture<br />

is the second largest industry<br />

in Texas and approximately<br />

one out of seven people<br />

rely on agriculture for their<br />

livelihood.<br />
