FAMILY DAY CARE<br />

Kentish is a children and community services provider with<br />
over 100 educators and 80 employees across the NT. We<br />
have offices in Palmerston, Katherine and Alice Springs.<br />
Kentish runs two long day care centres in Moulden and<br />
Tennant Creek. Kentish also runs Family Day Care (FDC)<br />
services and Out-of-Home-Care (OOHC) services.<br />
FDC is suitable for families seeking care and education in a<br />
small group setting and for those who require childcare around<br />
shift work or irregular hours. Over the COVID pandemic, FDC<br />
became very popular as it creates a smaller and safer social<br />
circle for children in care. FDC also gives the children a more<br />
stable relationship as children get to be with the same<br />
educator until they reach school age.<br />
BECOMING AN EDUCATOR<br />
As a FDC educator you will run your own business from home.<br />
You can have your own children as well as other children under<br />
your care. Since it is your own business, you can choose your<br />
clients, your opening hours and availability for weekends and<br />
overnight stays and set your own fees. FDC educators can take<br />
care of up to four children under the age of 5yo and three<br />
school-age children.<br />
FDC operates under the same National Quality Framework<br />
(NQF) - FDC parents are eligible for Federal Government<br />
Child Care subsidies, just like any other long day care<br />
arrangements. Kentish has an FDC coordinator who<br />
supports FDC educators. Kentish provides free<br />
trainings and programs, giving all educators<br />
opportunities to upskill, meet other educators and<br />
provide interesting activities for children.<br />
THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BECOMING<br />
A FAMILY DAY CARE EDUCATOR<br />
FDC educators will need minimum of Certificate III in<br />
Early Educator and Care or be willing to commence<br />
studies. As with any businesses, your business expenses<br />
are tax deductible, you may claim the cost to run the<br />
business such as educational materials, toys,<br />
maintenance, electricity, car, cleaning expenses and<br />
modifications to your home.<br />
