Societal Impact of Pain
As you may know, EFIC ® is the federation of the most relevant
scientific societies of healthcare professionals for the study
of pain in Europe.
Recent data show that a big group of pain patients is not adequately treated
because pain is not fully recognized as an important health issue by many of the
national health care systems.
At the same time in many countries some very interesting projects have been
initiated investigating the economic factors related to the burden of pain to patients
and the society. Unfortunately the knowledge gained and management instruments
developed locally are still sparsely shared amongst health care authorities and
stakeholders throughout Europe. With this in mind EFIC ® is convinced of the
importance to discuss the ‘Societal Impact of Pain’ with authorities, insurances,
budget holders and strategic decision makers within national health care systems.
For this reason EFIC ® would like to invite you to participate in the first symposium
on this subject aiming to describe problems and delivering facts around prevalence,
demographics, quality measurement, costs and resources.
