he »Crown of the Ore Mountains« is
situated high above the Zschopau Valley:
Augustusburg Castle. In the 16th century, the
Elector of Saxony, Augustus, had the imposing
structure built as a hunting and pleasure palace.
Today it is still one of the most beautiful
Renaissance castles in Central Europe.
The castle museum has various exhibitions that
tell visitors more about the history of hunting
and the castle, the fauna of the Ore Mountains
and carriages. When visiting the castle dungeon,
one cannot avoid feeling slightly uneasy. With
the »DiscoveryPad«, visitors go on a virtual
journey through time and meet historical
personalities. The observation tower offers a
fantastic view of the monumental Renaissance
castle and the surrounding countryside.
The motorcycle museum, the most important
one in Europe, is yet a further highlight at
Augustusburg Castle. It is hidden behind the
walls of the castle and houses exclusive exhibits.
The »Motorcyclists’ Winter Meeting« of the
Augustusburg biker community attracts
numerous motorcycle enthusiasts from near
and far every year.
