A
n immense wealth of water displays
make Lichtenwalde Castle and Park a
magical place. A total of 335 historic fountains
are distributed throughout the Baroque Garden
and interconnected by an ingenious circuit.
Especially in spring, guests here experience a
symphony of sensory impressions – of rustling
leaves, splashing fountains and fragrant blossoms.
Numerous open-air concerts can be heard from
the park during the summer months. Because
of its subtle design, Lichtenwalde is considered
one of the most beautiful Baroque ensembles
in Germany.
Today, the castle houses the Treasure Chamber
Museum, which features exhibits from foreign
and, in some cases, bygone cultures on three
floors. Here, visitors can marvel at porcelain,
lacquer paintings, furniture and silk embroidery
from China and Japan, as well as art and ritual
objects from Nepal and Tibet. Lovingly restored,
the historic salons, which were the former
count’s state rooms, allow visitors to experience
the splendor of earlier times.
