The master architect Val<strong>en</strong>tin from Zittau built<br />
Althoernitz Castle over 350 years ago for<br />
Christian von Hartig. The castle features an<br />
arched room where the son of the lord of the<br />
castle conducted rudim<strong>en</strong>tary alchemy experim<strong>en</strong>ts<br />
with Ehr<strong>en</strong>fried Walther von Tschirnhaus<br />
and Johann Friedrich Boettger – and made a<br />
significant contribution to the inv<strong>en</strong>tion of<br />
European porcelain.<br />
