Austria's Commitment to the 2030 Agenda
Guided by the BKMC's mission to foster leadership for the Sustainable Development Goals, we have been closely collaborating with the Austrian Federal Chancellery since 2018 to advance the implementation of the SDGs in and by Austria. On the margins of the UN High-Level Political Forum 2023, we are very proud to launch the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens publication “Austria’s Commitment to the 2030 Agenda”. The publication covers national, European, and global efforts to implement the SDGs. Against the backdrop of multiple crises, it is now more important than ever to find global solutions based on cooperation, partnership, and sustainability. Dive into our report and check out milestone activities, good practice examples, and initiatives of SDG implementation in Austria from 2019 to 2023.

The <strong>2030</strong> <strong>Agenda</strong> as guard rail of <strong>the</strong><br />
parliamentary activities<br />
While in many countries, <strong>the</strong> 17 SDGs of<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>2030</strong> <strong>Agenda</strong> are widely discussed in<br />
<strong>the</strong> public sphere, Austria still needs <strong>to</strong><br />
catch up. For this reason, <strong>the</strong> active MPs<br />
from almost all parliamentary groups<br />
merged in<strong>to</strong> an SDG steering committee<br />
at <strong>the</strong> parliament. Our objective, among<br />
o<strong>the</strong>r things, is <strong>to</strong> increase <strong>the</strong> parliament’s<br />
involvement in <strong>the</strong> implementation of <strong>the</strong><br />
goals and create awareness of <strong>the</strong> political<br />
relevance of <strong>the</strong> SDGs among <strong>the</strong> MPs.<br />
<strong>the</strong> requirements, in Austria. The speed of<br />
climate change is worrying and many young<br />
people show <strong>the</strong>ir fear and concern in a<br />
somewhat disturbing way. We must take<br />
care <strong>to</strong> leave a functioning world for <strong>the</strong><br />
next generations and s<strong>to</strong>p contributing <strong>to</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> disaster. The objectives of <strong>the</strong> <strong>2030</strong><br />
<strong>Agenda</strong> can be <strong>the</strong> guard rails for this.<br />
As for <strong>the</strong> future, I wish that <strong>the</strong> goals of<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>2030</strong> <strong>Agenda</strong> would be streamlined in<strong>to</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> parliamentary activities <strong>to</strong> a greater<br />
extent and would be <strong>the</strong> yardsticks of any<br />
legislative action.<br />
The “be present” and <strong>the</strong> “knowing about<br />
it” can only be <strong>the</strong> first steps for <strong>the</strong> parliament.<br />
In particular, Goal 13 (Take action <strong>to</strong><br />
combat climate change) still lags far behind<br />
