Austria's Commitment to the 2030 Agenda

Guided by the BKMC's mission to foster leadership for the Sustainable Development Goals, we have been closely collaborating with the Austrian Federal Chancellery since 2018 to advance the implementation of the SDGs in and by Austria. On the margins of the UN High-Level Political Forum 2023, we are very proud to launch the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens publication “Austria’s Commitment to the 2030 Agenda”. The publication covers national, European, and global efforts to implement the SDGs.  Against the backdrop of multiple crises, it is now more important than ever to find global solutions based on cooperation, partnership, and sustainability. Dive into our report and check out milestone activities, good practice examples, and initiatives of SDG implementation in Austria from 2019 to 2023.

SDG IMPLEMENTATION<br />

IN AUSTRIA<br />

● SDG 1: According <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> current<br />

international definition, <strong>the</strong>re is no<br />

extreme poverty in Austria.<br />

● SDG 2: The goal of putting a s<strong>to</strong>p<br />

<strong>to</strong> hunger can be mostly rated as<br />

achieved.<br />

● SDG 3: Rate of premature death due<br />

<strong>to</strong> non-infectious diseases has seriously<br />

decreased.<br />

● SDG 9: Industry CO2 emissions per<br />

gross value added were 243.4 metric<br />

<strong>to</strong>ns of CO2 per million euros in<br />

2010 and decreased <strong>to</strong> 196.9 metric<br />

<strong>to</strong>ns in 2018.<br />

● SDG 11: The land consumption for<br />

building, traffic, leisure and quarrying<br />

areas as well as municipal waste<br />

increased by 9.8 percent from 2010<br />

<strong>to</strong> 2019.<br />

● SDG 5: The gender pay gap decreased.<br />

However, it is still at a high level<br />

compared with o<strong>the</strong>r EU countries.<br />

● SDG 12: The sales of environmental<br />

products and services increased from<br />

31.6 billion euros in <strong>the</strong> year 2010 <strong>to</strong><br />

36.9 billion euros in <strong>the</strong> year 2019.<br />

● SDG 6: Access <strong>to</strong> clean and affordable<br />

drinking water can be considered as<br />

mostly achieved.<br />

● SDG 7: Access <strong>to</strong> affordable, reliable<br />

and modern energy services is<br />

considered largely achieved.<br />

● SDG 13: The greenhouse gas emissions<br />

decreased from 84.6 million<br />

<strong>to</strong>nnes of CO2 equivalents in <strong>the</strong><br />

year 2010 <strong>to</strong> 80.4 million <strong>to</strong>nnes in<br />

<strong>the</strong> year 2019, however, <strong>the</strong>y are still<br />

on a high level.<br />

● SDG 16: The risk of death due <strong>to</strong><br />

murder, manslaughter or deliberate<br />

injury is on a constantly low level.<br />
