Austria's Commitment to the 2030 Agenda

Guided by the BKMC's mission to foster leadership for the Sustainable Development Goals, we have been closely collaborating with the Austrian Federal Chancellery since 2018 to advance the implementation of the SDGs in and by Austria. On the margins of the UN High-Level Political Forum 2023, we are very proud to launch the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens publication “Austria’s Commitment to the 2030 Agenda”. The publication covers national, European, and global efforts to implement the SDGs.  Against the backdrop of multiple crises, it is now more important than ever to find global solutions based on cooperation, partnership, and sustainability. Dive into our report and check out milestone activities, good practice examples, and initiatives of SDG implementation in Austria from 2019 to 2023.

Which approaches <strong>to</strong> reporting <strong>the</strong> implementation of <strong>the</strong> SDGs<br />

have proven successful? Who should be specifically involved and<br />

how? A roundtable on SDG implementation and reporting focused<br />

on concrete best practice projects and recommendations.<br />

On 16th December 2019, ano<strong>the</strong>r discussion,<br />

<strong>the</strong> Peer Learning Roundtable on <strong>the</strong> SDGs<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Reporting at <strong>the</strong> High-Level Political<br />

Forum for Sustainable Development<br />

(HLPF) <strong>to</strong>ok place. The coordina<strong>to</strong>rs and<br />

many stakeholders of SDG implementation<br />

in Austria and Europe discussed best practices<br />

and national mplementation strategies<br />

in this regard. Different approaches<br />

<strong>to</strong> reporting on SDG implementation <strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> HLPF were also discussed.<br />

Involving <strong>the</strong> youth<br />

Machiel van Stralen (SDG Team of <strong>the</strong><br />

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of <strong>the</strong> Ne<strong>the</strong>rlands)<br />

emphasised <strong>the</strong> involvement<br />

of various interest groups as <strong>the</strong> most<br />

important recommendation regarding <strong>the</strong><br />

Voluntary National Review (VNR). Above all,<br />

he stressed <strong>the</strong> successful involvement of<br />

<strong>the</strong> youth in <strong>the</strong> Dutch review and reporting<br />

process and in <strong>the</strong> presentation of <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

VNR.<br />

Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore, <strong>the</strong> initiative “Adopt an SDG”,<br />

launched by NGOs, is supported by many<br />

MPs in <strong>the</strong> Ne<strong>the</strong>rlands. This campaign<br />

was kicked off on 25th September 2017, <strong>the</strong><br />

second anniversary of <strong>the</strong> SDGs, in order<br />

<strong>to</strong> engage <strong>the</strong> newly elected members of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Dutch Parliament in implementing <strong>the</strong><br />

SDGs. As part of <strong>the</strong> campaign, MPs select<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir favourite SDGs, and are subsequently<br />

continuously provided with information,<br />

expertise, research, and policy advice on this<br />
