Since his Arsenal days Guendouzi has matured a great
deal and his on-field performances have reflected that
both in his overall numbers improving and his
versatility in being able to play in both a central
midfield role, where he is box to box, and in an
attacking midfield role. Marseille play with a midfield
four in a 3-4-3 or a 3-4-2-1 with Guendouzi fulfilling
both the LCM and RCM roles as well as the AML and
AMR roles in both these formations and so he would
slot right into the Villa midfield as well as provide an
alternative option in attacking areas should Emery see
fit to use him there. His work rate is very good, he has a
good engine, and he is dynamic in his attacking play.
Here we have him on a CM template up against John
McGinn and this is where I believe he is best suited, but
he must have a more defensive minded CM alongside
him such as Kamara as the best of his passing is done in
the middle to final third of the pitch. He would face stiff
competition for the role from the Scotsman that’s for
sure.
