After Leicester City’s relegation from the EPL the talk
started almost immediately about Harvey Barnes and
his future. Although he had a disappointing season in
many aspects, he was one of the better performing
players in the Leicester team scoring 13 goals from an
xG of just 8.9. However, it is best to look back at his
numbers from the previous season when Leicester
had a significantly better one finishing in 8 th in the
EPL table.
His xThreat value was over double his 22\23 number
from 0.12 to 0.26 per 90, his assists per 90 hit 0.43
compared to 0.03 in 22\23, his progressive carries,
successful dribbles and shot count were all
significantly higher than last seasons and all in -600
minutes less on the pitch than in 22\23. Barnes’
direct, jockeying, ball carrying style ending with a
burst of pace into the box, does need more of a final
moment to it, but he would flourish in Villa’s 4-4-2.
