The chef worked at the Marriott Hotel
at Grand National and learned a great deal
from a chef from New York and others who
worked there. With a natural ability, Chef
Bass quickly learned and began adding his
creative influences to dishes.
When John Robert Wood purchased Cafe
123, he was offered a position as the sous
chef and shortly afterwards became executive
chef.
When Chef Bass went to work at Cafe 123
in 2005, there wasn’t much nightlife and
only a few restaurants. Now downtown
has grown with more restaurants, brewing
companies and distilleries, making it a
lively destination.
Haynie’s started as a place for friends to
gather for a good time, and that has continued.
Although the ambiance is much more
elegant and instead of an icy soda, it is an
outstanding meal prepared by a talented
chef.
Cafe 123 is located at 123 S. 8th Street in
downtown Opelika and is open Tuesday
through Saturday for dinner at 5 p.m. and
on Sunday for brunch from 11 a.m. until 2
p.m. For further information or reservations
