to the Delta Blues book. Clint walked the
streets of Charleston taking photos of
architectural houses to paint.
When Clint paints at his home outside
Auburn, which was his grandparents’
farmhouse, he often listens to music by
Mississippi Delta Blues musicians. The love
of this music led to the idea of a book with
watercolor paintings of the legends and
current stars of the Delta Blues.
Photos of these legends are scarce while
other prints are of low quality, such as from
photo booths. Clint has spent a lot of time
in Mississippi gathering information and
doing research. He listens to each musician’s
music while he paints the portrait.
Clint and his partner on the project, John
Davis of Nashville, Tenn., have been working
on the book for seven years.
“This book will be a unicorn,” says Davis,
“unlike art books that drown in academic
self-importance or music books that bury
readers with narcissistic fandom. There
will be an easy meandering pace, like one
realizes when in the delta. Every painting is
a full page vertical or across two pages horizontal,
which allows the artist’s voice to be
fully experienced.
“The writings accompanying each will
truly give readers an intimate sense of who
they are. In fact, the stories from notable
writers are so unique that readers will fall
