Picnic tables and grills are located along the creek. NANTAHALA NATIONAL FOREST As one of the most popular areas for water sports, it is also a site for fishing, petfriendly hiking trails and other outdoor adventures. Most of the cascading waterfalls can be seen from Wayah Road. THE SWAIN COUNTY HERITAGE MUSEUM AND VISITORS CENTER Housed in the 1908 historic courthouse, the museum is on the second floor with exhibits that tell the story of the county and the creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Fontana Dam. A children’s area provides a variety of activities. Admission and parking are free. The visitor’s center is located on the first floor. Staff assists with directions, maps, brochures and helpful tips about the area. The Great Smoky Mountains Association bookstore is also on the first floor. Fly-Fishing Museum, Appalachian Rivers Aquarium The Fly-Fishing Museum is located across street from the visitors’ center, and the Appalachian Rivers Aquarium is a few blocks away.
