20% off-the-job learning You’ll spend 6 hours per week of your apprenticeship off-the-job. This is the time you will spend away from your normal day to day duties (but not necessarily away from your place of work) where you’ll complete learning activities to enable you to achieve your apprenticeship. You’ll be provided with an off-thejob training plan at the start of your apprenticeship and you’ll be responsible for keeping a record of your activities and hours. Off the job learning includes many things, some of them are obvious such as attending college or workshops, completing workbooks and preparing for your trainer/assessor meetings. Directed learning from Gateshead College: Independent learning: Others are less obvious but still very important learning opportunities, this might include attending meetings, internal training, coaching from a colleague or manager, learning a new IT system, reading instructions or trade papers, research on the internet, undertaking projects, creating reports or practicing new skills in the workplace.
