Some of Bridgette’s
favourite books
• Monitor financial health and seek
professional advice to ensure
financial stability and growth.
• Join or create a business support
group in your industry, be open to
learning from each other instead of
reinventing the wheel.
My mantra is, “there is always a positive
in a negative, you just need to find
it”. This can set the scene for you as a
business owner to improve systems and
processes and to rethink business values
and recruitment when you encounter
a negative. Always look to turn around
what will feel like an issue so it becomes
a positive rather than at face value, a
negative.
HAVE THE PASSION
I believe without passion for what you
do, you have nothing and everything will
feel hard and it will show. Any business
owner will start with a passion for their
business.
Amidst the daily demands
of running the business,
juggling numerous
tasks while facing
challenges
and personal
responsivities
at home,
it is not
uncommon
to lose sight of
that passion.
When you
do, you can
be left feeling
emotionally challenged and tired. This is
where a support network of people can
bring you back and become your guide.
I myself, employed a business mentor
early on who helped to provide clarity
to my business plan and ideas. He was
there for me to bounce my ideas off and
was the person I was accountable to.
For me he was invaluable and still is, five
years later.
Remember too that a mentor’s
effectiveness is also based on your
willingness to implement their advice.
Also know that having the right mentor
for you and your business is crucial.
Look for someone who aligns with your
values, has experience in your industry
or one that has the same synergies.
You also need to have a mutually
compatible working style and trust
for building a strong mentor-mentee
relationship.
Coming back to “there is always a
positive in a negative, you just need
to find it”, sometimes it will feel all too
hard, but there will be a positive. You
will find strength in every challenge,
if you bring your personal power.
Embrace setbacks as opportunities for
growth and when you come up against
them, use your professional network
as a sounding board. Success lies in
adapting, learning and staying resilient
and remember you are not alone.
