Medicine Day!<br />
14 <strong>Mart</strong> Tıp Bayramı<br />
kutlu olsun!<br />
During the reign of II. Mahmud, modern medical education<br />
began in Türkiye on March 4, 1827, with the suggestion of<br />
Chief Physician Mustafa Behçet. The first surgery center was<br />
established in the Tulumbacıbaşı Mansion in Şehzadebaşı under<br />
the names “Tıphanesi-i Amire” and “Serrahhanesi-i Amire”. This<br />
event is considered the day when modern medical education<br />
began in Türkiye, and on this occasion, March 14, the founding<br />
day of the school, began to be celebrated as “Medicine Day”.<br />
The first celebration of Medicine Day took place in occupied<br />
Istanbul in March 1919. Medical faculty students gathered<br />
to protest the occupation under the leadership of Hikmet<br />
Bora, and the famous doctors of the period also supported<br />
them. Between 1929 and 1937, May 12 was celebrated as<br />
Medicine Day. This date was celebrated as Medicine Day as it<br />
was considered the day when the first Turkish medical courses<br />
started at Bursa Yıldırım Hospital. Nowadays, it is celebrated<br />
not only on March 14, but also throughout the week including<br />
March 14, and this week is considered the “Medicine Holiday<br />
Week”. Similar celebrations are held on different dates in<br />
different parts of the world. While July 1, the birthday of the<br />
famous Doctor Bidhan Chandra Roy, is celebrated as “Doctors’<br />
Day” in India, the anniversary of March 30, 1842, when general<br />
anesthesia was first used in surgeries, is celebrated in the USA.<br />
As the team of <strong>Medikal</strong> <strong>Teknik</strong> Magazine, we celebrate<br />

II. Mahmud döneminde 4 <strong>Mart</strong> 1827’de Hekimbaşı<br />
Mustafa Behçet’in önerisiyle Türkiye’de modern tıp<br />
eğitimi başladı. İlk cerrahhane, Şehzadebaşı’ndaki<br />
Tulumbacıbaşı Konağı’nda “Tıp hanesi-i Amire” ve “Cerrah<br />
hanesi-i Amire” adlarıyla kuruldu. Bu etkinlik, Türkiye’de<br />
modern tıp eğitiminin başladığı gün olarak kabul ediliyor<br />
ve bu vesileyle okulun kuruluş günü olan 14 <strong>Mart</strong>, “Tıp<br />
Bayramı” olarak kutlanmaya başlandı. Tıp Bayramı’nın<br />
ilk kutlaması işgal altındaki İstanbul’da <strong>Mart</strong> 1919’da<br />
gerçekleşti. Hikmet Bora’nın önderliğinde işgali protesto<br />
etmek için toplanan tıp fakültesi öğrencileri, dönemin<br />
ünlü doktorları da onlara destek verdi. 1929-1937 yılları<br />
arasında 12 Mayıs Tıp Bayramı olarak kutlandı. Bu tarih,<br />
Bursa Yıldırım Hastanesi’nde ilk Türkçe tıp kurslarının<br />
başladığı gün olarak kabul edildiğinden Tıp Bayramı<br />
olarak kutlandı. Günümüzde sadece 14 <strong>Mart</strong> günü değil,<br />
14 <strong>Mart</strong>’ı da içeren hafta boyunca kutlanmakta ve bu hafta<br />
“Tıp Bayramı Haftası” olarak kabul edilmektedir. Benzer<br />
kutlamalar dünyanın farklı yerlerinde farklı tarihlerde<br />
yapılıyor. Ünlü Doktor Bidhan Chandra Roy’un doğum günü<br />
olan 1 Temmuz, Hindistan’da “Doktorlar Günü” olarak<br />
kutlanırken, ABD’de genel anestezinin ameliyatlarda ilk<br />
kez kullanıldığı 30 <strong>Mart</strong> 1842’nin yıl dönümü kutlanıyor.<br />
<strong>Medikal</strong> <strong>Teknik</strong> dergisi ekibi olarak, 14 <strong>Mart</strong> Tıp bayramını<br />
kutluyoruz. Nisan <strong>2024</strong> sayımızda görüşünceye kadar esen<br />
kalın.
