Ballito couple Lesego and Joseph Mpyana started the Red Retreat three years ago,
and the fundraising initiative has grown from strength to strength.
Most North Coast locals
will have heard about
the work of Lesego and
Joseph Mpyana. The
husband-and-wife-team are the
driving force behind Move Africa and
The Red Movement, an NPO that
provides reusable menstrual cups
to disadvantaged communities in
an effort to create a world where
menstrual equality is the norm.
Riding a wave of success, the couple
launched the Red Movement, a
platform where people could
pledge their support for the cause
by pledging cups for distribution.
The goal is to provide 100 000 girls
with reusable menstrual cups every
year, which in turn has a profound
environmental, economic and
educational impact. The movement
really gained traction, and has since
become a community committed
to creating a brighter future for all
women, no matter their social or
economic background.
It was this spirit of togetherness that
led to the launch of The Red Retreat
three years ago, a fundraising initiative
that is all about empowerment,
wellness and connection.
The retreat is hosted at Thanda Safari,
a beautiful private game reserve
near Hluhluwe, and features a variety
of activities – think sunrise fitness
and meditation sessions – as well as
enriching conversations, game drives,
delicious food and spoils from their
brand partners. Every contribution
