Brazilian business basics Brazil as a nation has survived so much political, economic, and social turbulence that you might actually wonder how this was possible. Well, it is not without reason that terms such as "jeitinho" and "jogo de cintura" are well known in the Brazilian business world. Behind both terms lies the flexibility practiced on site. It is precisely this attitude that has helped people through the many changes and disruptions. This is why rules – even in business – are often seen as guidelines that can be broken if it seems appropriate. Meeting culture If you like to schedule several meetings in a row, you should be prepared for the fact that meetings in Brazil tend to start late and can, on top of that, run late. Believe me, this can put the best schedule to a real test! In addition, it is considered rude to get up and leave as soon as a meeting is over. My tip: take some time after a meeting to have a coffee, for example! Of course, this is more likely to be the case in small, family-run companies than in large corporations. Adjust your expectations! Meetings are usually held at a slower pace than people from North America or Northern Europe are used to. Don't get impatient!
