Around 2,000 international companies from over 100 countries exhibited at the last edition of the trade fair in 2022<br />

Welcome to <strong>Posidonia</strong> <strong>2024</strong><br />

<strong>Posidonia</strong>, which takes place every two years in the <strong>Greek</strong> capital Athens, is much more<br />

than just a trade fair. It is a meeting place for the maritime industry and also one<br />

of the biggest social events in the sector<br />

his is because <strong>Posidonia</strong>, which<br />

Tofficially runs from 3 to 7 June, is<br />

heralded by numerous events in the<br />

run-up to the event. The flagship event is<br />

the »<strong>Posidonia</strong> Cup«, a sailing regatta<br />

that starts on 31 May. There is also a golf<br />

tournament on the Saturday before the<br />

start of the fair. Those who don‘t play golf<br />

can also register for the basketball<br />

tournament on Saturday or the running<br />

event or football tournament on Sunday.<br />

The official part of the trade fair starts<br />

on Monday. Exhibitors from all over the<br />

world are expected there. Around 2,000<br />

international companies from over 100<br />

countries exhibited at the last edition of<br />

the trade fair in 2022. The organisers<br />

counted almost 30,000 visitors. Visitors<br />

will once again be able to find out about<br />

new products and innovative services,<br />

both on the exhibition floor and as part of<br />

the extensive conference programme.<br />

<strong>Posidonia</strong> will bring together the<br />

maritime industry in Athens. However,<br />

many companies will already be there, as<br />

Greece is the strongest shipping nation in<br />

the world. <strong>Posidonia</strong> is home to the<br />

owners of the world’s largest merchant<br />

fleet. According to figures from the fair<br />

organisers Greece operating 21% of<br />

global and 59% of European capacity, So,<br />

it represents a »multi-billion dollar<br />

opportunity for shipbuilders and for<br />

suppliers of marine equipment, information<br />

technology and the whole<br />

spectrum of marine services«. The upgrading<br />

of the <strong>Greek</strong> fleet has kept its<br />

worth above US$150bn. At the same time<br />

<strong>Greek</strong> owners have been ordering new<br />

vessels in the shipyards of Japan, China<br />

and South Korea. Oil tankers and LNG<br />

and LPG carriers are all under construction,<br />

along with dry bulk carriers<br />

and container ships.<br />

»For over half a century the <strong>Greek</strong><br />

shipping community, owning the world’s<br />

largest merchant fleet, has been<br />

welcoming international friends to<br />

<strong>Posidonia</strong>. <strong>2024</strong> will be no exception as<br />

this gathering continues to grow. It gives<br />

us all a unique opportunity for face to<br />

face discussions, productive business and<br />

sporting rivalry with old and new<br />

colleagues from across the shipping<br />

world. Exchanging ideas, evaluating<br />

developments and laying the foundations<br />

for future collaboration. Together we<br />

must meet many challenges and these<br />

collaborations will be key to our shared<br />

Shipowners and the whole <strong>Greek</strong><br />

shipping community, I look forward to<br />
