683 Finlaggan Old Reserve Islay, bottled by Vintage Malt Whisky Company Boisdale The whisky has an amber colour and the nose has a dry mixture of iodine, seaweed, phenols, sweetness and smoke. The palate is smooth and balanced with dry peaty, salt and smoke. On the finish it adds a peppery spiciness. 740 Glen Elgin 12yrs Speyside, distillery bottling 'The intensity of the malt is breathtaking; stunning fresh malt arrival, salivating barley that is both crisp and lush: then a big round of spice amid some squashed, overripe plums. The 21 year old is full bodied with a light, mouth wateringly pleasant palate leading to a fruity finish. 690 Glen Moray classic Speyside, distillery bottling At full strength, the aroma is fragrant and lightly drying with warming malty notes. The first impression is of butterscotch and shortbread with fresh herbal/grassy notes. Lemon curd and meringue are discovered in the background. With water, malt and spices combine to reveal oatmeal with a hint of freshly ground black pepper. Lemongrass, tea-tree oil and heather aromatics give the whisky a fragrance throughout .The mouth feel is lightly spiced with a warming and gently mouth watering effect. Malty toffee sweetness is present throughout with blackcurrants and a fragrant citrus lemongrass tang. 696 Glen Moray 16yrs Speyside, distillery bottling A rich and mature nose with a robust character, it is reminiscent of dried fruit, perhaps figs and raisins, mixed with chocolate and spices (cloves and boiling sweets). There is a hint of leather and linseed oil giving an overall impression of warmth and depth of character. With water, barley sugar emerges with mint humbugs and a hint of oak smoke. A whiff of peat is now noticeable. Sweet, full and exceptionally well-rounded, the taste is smooth with a good firm body, meeting the expectations set from the rich, mature nose. The texture is gently oily and mouth-coating with chewy oak tannins.
