778 Talisker 10yrs Skye, distillery bottling Boisdale Peaty, island-style aroma. A silky, malty palate with a good kick of salt and pepper. Something of a firework, the primary taste is sweet and salty, with the pepperiness growing and powerful peat-smoke in the, relatively short, finish. 779 Talisker 18yrs Skye, distillery bottling Rich and fruity – Victoria plums, greengages, perhaps dried orange peel – with some butterscotch or rum toffee and a thread of smoke behind. The smoke soon advances into the foreground and the toffee note is joined by a light mintiness. With water maritime characteristics emerge – dry boat varnish, edible seaweed. The overall effect is warming. The development is towards smoke, coal-tar and toffee. A very versatile whisky. 780 Tullibardine 15yrs Lowlands, distillery bottling A light malty nuttiness with fresh floral notes with an underlying sweetness and hints of honey. Water encourages the floral elements and brings a little spice and some citrus. A brief drying feeling is engulfed in waves of sweet malt and honey, with hints of grape seed. With water the creaminess from the oak comes through. Finishes quite crisp and dry. A delicate, fragrant malt with intriguing complexity.
