labor in Vietnam’s drug detention centers, where goods are being produced that may be being exported to the US. • In light of reports from former detainees of cashew production in at least 11 of the 16 centers under the administration of Ho Chi Minh City authorities, the US Department of Labor should add cashews from Vietnam to its list of goods from around the world that are produced by forced or child labor. • In the context of negotiations for a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Union, the EU should raise with the government of Vietnam the need to end forced labor in drug detention centers before the agreement is finalized. 103 HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH | SEPTEMBER 2011
