Crist<strong>in</strong>a Cioch<strong>in</strong>a was born <strong>in</strong> Bucarest, Romania, <strong>in</strong> 1980. She received<br />

her Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g degree <strong>in</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Telecommunications</strong> from the<br />

Polytechnic University of Bucarest, Romania, <strong>in</strong> 2004. She received her M.Sc.<br />

degree from the Ecole Supérieure d´Electricité (SUPELEC), France, <strong>in</strong> 2005<br />

<strong>and</strong> her Ph.D. degree from the Université de Paris-Sud 11, France <strong>in</strong> 2009,<br />

both <strong>in</strong> <strong>Telecommunications</strong>.<br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce 2005, she has been with Mitsubishi Electric R&D Centre Europe<br />

(MERCE), France. Her technical <strong>in</strong>terests <strong>in</strong>clude physical layer design,<br />

multicarrier systems, signal process<strong>in</strong>g for future wireless communications<br />

systems, <strong>and</strong> 3GPP/LTE. Dr. Cioch<strong>in</strong>a has published 18 technical papers <strong>and</strong><br />

is the author or co-author of 8 patent applications.<br />

Hikmet Sari (S´78 - M´81 - SM´88 - F´95) received his Diploma (M.S.) <strong>and</strong><br />

Ph.D. <strong>in</strong> <strong>Telecommunications</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g from the ENST, Paris, France, <strong>in</strong><br />

1978 <strong>and</strong> 1980, respectively, <strong>and</strong> the Habilitation degree from the University<br />

of Paris-Sud, Orsay <strong>in</strong> 1992.<br />

He was with Philips Research Laboratories from 1978 to 1989, first as<br />

Researcher <strong>and</strong> then as Group Supervisor. From 1989 to 1996, he was R&D<br />

Department Manager at SAT (SAGEM Group), <strong>and</strong> from 1996 to 2000, he<br />

was Technical Director at Alcatel. In May 2000, he became Chief Scientist of<br />

the newly-founded Pacific Broadb<strong>and</strong> Communications, which was acquired<br />

by Juniper Networks <strong>in</strong> December 2001. S<strong>in</strong>ce April 2003, he has been a<br />

Professor <strong>and</strong> Head of the <strong>Telecommunications</strong> Department at SUPELEC, <strong>and</strong><br />

s<strong>in</strong>ce December 2004 he is also Chief Scientist of Sequans Communications.<br />

Dr. Sari was an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Communications from<br />

1987 to 1991, a Guest Editor of the European Transactions on <strong>Telecommunications</strong><br />

(ETT) <strong>in</strong> 1993, a Guest Editor of the IEEE JSAC <strong>in</strong> 1999, an Associate<br />

Editor of the IEEE Communications Letters from 1999 to 2002, <strong>and</strong> a Guest<br />

Editor of the EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications <strong>and</strong> Network<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong> 2007. He was also Chair of the Communication Theory Symposium of the<br />

2002 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC 2002), April<br />

2002, New York, Technical Program Chair of ICC 2004, June 2004, Paris, <strong>and</strong><br />

Vice General Chair of ICC 2006, June 2006, Istanbul. He is currently serv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

as General Chair for the forthcom<strong>in</strong>g 2010 Annual IEEE Symposium on<br />

Personal, Indoor <strong>and</strong> Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC 2010) <strong>and</strong> the<br />

2012 IEEE Wireless Communications <strong>and</strong> Network<strong>in</strong>g Conference (WCNC<br />

2012). He was elevated to the IEEE Fellow Grade <strong>and</strong> received the Andre<br />

Blondel Medal from the SEE (France) <strong>in</strong> 1995 <strong>and</strong> he received the Edw<strong>in</strong> H.<br />

Armstrong Achievement Award from the IEEE Communications Society <strong>in</strong><br />

2003.
